The Trail to Oregon!

The Trail to Oregon was released on YouTube on Valentine's Day, and I watched it immediately after it was released!

It parodies the video game, The Oregon Trail, in which players act as wagon leaders guiding his or her groups from Independence, Missouri, to Oregon's Willamette Valley.

To make the musical have more features as a game, the StarKid group adds a few interesting interactive designs, such as letting the audience name the characters and choose which character will die at the end.

It really deepens my desire to watch a live StarKid show!

Spoiler Alert!

At the beginning, just like the game, players have to name the characters.
So, the father leads the audience to shout any names they want.
Hence, these stupid names appear.

Jack Bauer, Slippery When Wet, Mouth Face, Crap Hole, and Titty Mitty! XDDDD

Gone to Oregon
Oh, yeah, it's more than a game
No two shows will ever be the same
The interesting part is, by doing so, every show is unique, and how the story ends will be different!
--
The family would like to move to Oregon because the foolish father burns down their farm.

Before they leave, the famous outlaws, The Bandit King and his sidekick, Cletus Jones, approach the family because The Bandit King is attracted by the beautiful daughter.

The mother sees through his plot and separates them, which upsets the daughter, who is looking for love. The Bandit King, thus, vows to revenge.

They finally begin their journey after the dumb father buys a wagon which is on its last leg and a crippled ox for a barbaric price.

The Grind

The mother has lots of trouble to take care of four childish men!
--
On their trail, the son, Crap Hole, throws all the supplies out, so the grandfather, Kitty Mitty, takes him to hunt and tells him his eccentric story about fighting lobsters in 1812. XDDDD

Pays to Be an Animal
Crap Hole kills for the first time to survive!

Oops! I slipped!
(The baby buffalo slips after its parents are killed by Crap Hole.)

The daughter, Mouth Face, has a fight with her mother, and the mother fakes her death to make Mouth Face concedes that she needs her mother.
After Mouth Face knows the truth, she is so furious that she wishes she doesn't have a family and The Bandit King would take her away.
When The World's At Stake
Be the most adoring person
Your mom has ever known
Lord have mercy on my soul
And let my dreams be all her own
The mother confesses her love for her daughter.
--
One night, the mother is bitten by a snake, and the father saves her by sucking out the poison; however, he accidentally swallows it down and get into a coma.

In his hallucination, a voice tells him that the watchers(audience) will kill one of them by Dysentery, which allows the audience to have more interactions with the show: to hand over a piece of paper on which the name who they want to be dead is written!
--
To revenge, The Bandit King and his sidekick set the wagon on fire and kidnap Mouth Face, wanting to make her The Bandit King's wife.

Wagon on Fire
--
The lost daughter eventually finds out how she needs a family, and wishes they could be reunited one day.
Lost Without You
Now I am lost without you
Sometimes I barely breathe
If I ever don't think of you
It's because I can't believe
To get back the family, the father decides he would do anything and threatens the guy who sells the nearly-broken wagon to him to give him a new wagon or he will shoot him!(Jeff Blim is truly good at playing a psycho XDDD)
When the World's at Stake (Reprise)
When the world's at stake
There are lives to save
In every step I take
And every rule I break
I'm one step closer to my family
It's interesting that in the previous song, the mother admits her love for her family and in the reprise, the father takes turns!

Having a new wagon, the family do a speed run to catch up the daughter.
Speedrun

While the family racing, The Bandit King with his sidekick and Mouth Face come upon the great Columbia River, and he decides to float the wagon across the river. However, in the river, they hit a rock. The Bandit King and his sidekick are washed away while Mouth Face holds on to a rock.

At the same time, the family finally arrives, and fords the river to save her!
Caulk the Wagon

Unfortunately, they also wreck their wagon. At this moment, a lobster(who is Grandpa's lobster arch-nemesis) shows up and saves them! All the crazy things the grandfather says turns out to be true!
 via

As the family happily arrives at the border of Oregon, a doctor appears and tells them only healthy person can continue to Oregon and one of them is about to die of Dysentery!(The one who is chosen by the audience)

Here's how the ending would be a little different. On YouTube, you can see every ending of different character dies, and I think the most amusing one is the ending of Daughter dies.

The family drags Mouth Face's body across the border, and amazingly finds out she does't die.

  via
It turns out that she fakes her death to deceive her mother, who also does it once to Mouth Face. XDD

At last, the grandfather finds a million-dollar bill in his pocket which the lobster returned to him, and the family lives happily with the fortune.

I think the most intriguing part of the show is that you can observe how the characters and plot change.
It's like how our lives change in the real world. Maybe just as the first song says:
 It's more than a game!
